September 4, 1862 – A New Brigade

The five Regiments of nine months men are to be encamped in this town, immediately after the departure of the 10th and 11th Regiments. They will be numbered the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Regiments Vermont Volunteers, and will form one Brigade. They will be quartered in well built houses as it is impossible for the general government to find tents at present. Extensive and complete arrangements are making under the direction of the Quartermaster General for their accommodation. The bringing together of these regiments in one camp is strongly urged by Gen. Halleck.
