November 3, 1862 – Brilliant Cavalry Exploit

Information was received yesterday that a detachment of the 13th Virginia Cavalry, on Friday last, attacked one of the enemy’s railroad trains, near Manassas Junction, destroyed it, and captured ninety six prisoners. It was this affair, doubtless, that gave rise to the rumor of a heavy engagement in that direction. The prisoners were at Gordonsville last evening, and will probably arrive in Richmond to-day. The Fredericksburg papers mention that heavy cannonading was heard on Thursday in the direction of Alexandria, which is supposed to proceed from gunboat practice on the Potomac.
