Collision Of Two Sapphos

DURING FOG on Saturday, the Wilson liner Sappho and H.M.S. second-class Cruiser Sappho were in collision off Dungeness. The cruiser was badly rammed by the liner, and at once began to fill with water, the result being that crew had to be sent off in the ship’s boats and local lifeboats. By good fortune the cruiser obtained assistance, and was was towed on to Dover, where she beached. The commander of the cruiser the decidedly Manx name of Harold Christian.
