Last Thursday And Friday Were The Warmest In Many Years In Milford.
The Intense hot weather of last Thursday and Friday created havoc in many of the manufacturing plants in Milford, and caused much suffering to the workmen. On Thursday the government thermometer registered 99 degrees and on Friday the high mark was 100 degrees. Both days the humidity was exceedingly high which resulted in almost unbearable heat. Several reports of thermometers standing In the sun registering as high as 120 degrees were reported. Many of the manufacturing plants were compelled to close down because of the heat. The L. D. Caulk Company shut down Friday until Monday morning. On the farms in lower Delaware the farmers were unable to work during the heat of the day; and many of them reversed their working hours so that they started early in the morning and worked late into the evening. The temperature on Friday was the highest of any day for about ten years past. The excessive rainfall during July caused the extreme humidity which caused the suffering from the heat. On Saturday the weather changed and this week has been very pleasant with a temperature averaging about 75 degrees.
