October 13, 1862 – From Gen. Bragg’s Army

A letter in the Augusta Constitutionalist, dated Bardstown, KY, Sept. 27th, says that “it is no part of Gen. Bragg’s present plans to occupy Louisville. At every move he has deceived, out-generaled, and out flanked Buell, who is now making his way to Louisville.” If Bragg’s object in making the recent demonstration against Louisville was simply to draw Buell’s forces thither, he has succeeded. His ulterior object may be to fall back in the direction od Nashville, and repossess that place, but as yet his strategy is not apparent. The Yankees would have us believe that he is closely pressed by their forces in the retrograde movement. A day or two will develope the real situation of affairs in Kentucky. We understand that the late Northern accounts from that State have not occasioned that solicitude, in official circles, which pervades the public mind.
