Thorough check-up of all parts of the Egyptian collection and similar collections in the New National Museum is being made today under direction of Dr. I. B. Casanowicz, curator in charge, to determine the
extent of recent operations of the “Museum Raffles.”
Investigation, it was stated, has revealed no further clues to the identity of the thief. He is believed by museum officials to be an experienced Egyptologist and a connoisseur of more than ordinary caliber. The articles taken from the case were chosen with rare judgment of art worth, it is stated.
Some of the stolen objects are regarded as priceless and cannot be duplicated, it is said. Museum officials are unable to arrive at anything like a true estimate of the value of the loot.
The check-up may not be completed before the close of next week, it was indicated.
