Boston, Oct. 10(AP) -George Schley Davis, credited with the direction of the work which gave Central America radio and telegraph communication with the world, died suddenly this morning at his home here.
He had had a meteoric career with the United Fruit Company which brought him international recognition for his communications work and intimacy with such scientists as Marconi and Edison and with General Harbord.
He suffered about two months ago an attack of angina pectoris but apparently fully recovered and for the past month had been back at his desk. Last evening a small party at his home broke up early because he felt unwell and a few hours later he died.
Born 42 years ago in Nebraska. Davis studied radio while serving in the United States Navy. In 1909 he joined the United Fruit Company and rose rapidly through the ranks of chief operator, superintendent of the radio department, general manager, until a year ago he was made vice president.
Besides his work with radio communication in Central and South America, Mr. Davis took an active part in introducing electric ship propulsion to American merchant vessels.
